Our view of the service

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 8 August 2024. We found the practice had not met all regulations. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. However, there was a lack of effective leadership and not all risks associated with undertaking of regulated activities had been suitably identified and mitigated. We noted that a fire risk assessment, servicing of the emergency lighting, fire alarm systems and Electrical Installation Condition Report were not undertaken. Risks identified in the Legionella risk assessment were not reviewed or completed. Processes for overseeing staff training were not effective. Beaulieu Dental is in Springfield, Chelmsford, Essex and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 3 dentists, 4 dental nurses including 1 trainee dental nurse, 3 dental hygienists and 1 receptionist. Sedation completed at the practice was supported by a visiting professional sedation organisation. The practice had 3 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 2 dentists, 2 dental nurses, 1 receptionist and a supporting practice manager. The provider was not complying with all regulations. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of this service

On the day of assessment, patients we spoke with told us that staff were kind and caring and they were happy with the service provided. Their response, and additional patient feedback we reviewed, provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. Staff gathered feedback from patients. Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
