During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 17 December 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance, and infection control procedures were in place. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Governance procedures were in place and embedded. We found some areas where this could be strengthened and shared this feedback with the provider on the assessment day. Some improvements were required to ensure the practice's risk management systems for monitoring and mitigating the various risks arising from the carrying on of the regulated activities were robust. Hayes Dental Practice is in Hayes, in the London Borough of Hillingdon and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. The practice had 5 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with the 2 principal dentists, 3 trainee dental nurses and 1 qualified dental nurse, 1 dental therapist, and the receptionist.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with four people using the service, two dentists, one receptionist and two dental nurses.

People said staff were polite and respectful and understood the importance of maintaining confidentiality. People told us they were satisfied with treatment they received and that the dentists explained their treatment to them, so they understood it.

People confirmed the practice was always clean, that staff used protective clothing including gloves, masks and glasses and provided people with protective glasses during treatment.

Equipment in use had been serviced at the required intervals and was being maintained in working order.

The practice was being staffed appropriately to meet the needs of the people who used it.

Processes were in place for monitoring the quality of the service provided and were being further developed to ensure all areas of the practice were included. People told us they felt confident to raise any concerns they might have.

Comments received from people about the practice and the staff included, 'I like the practice and trust them', 'All are very friendly and whenever you have treatment they make sure you are ok before leaving. I am very pleased and would not go anywhere else now' and 'the dentist is one of the best we have ever had, very personable and makes you feel relaxed'. Satisfaction surveys had been completed in May 2013 and all those who had completed surveys had expressed satisfaction with the service they received.
