During a routine inspection
We spoke with three people who used the service. All three people told us they were sent a brochure, with treatment information, prior to their initial consultation. They all told us they were clear on the cost of treatment and were given written treatment plans and an estimate of costs.
We looked at three people's records. We saw evidence that dentists at the practice made sure they had the person's full medical history, including any medication that was being taken and details of any allergies, before providing treatment. Staff spoken with were clear about their role and where the equipment was stored if an emergency occurred. The emergency drugs and oxygen were checked regularly to ensure they were in date and safe to use.
The two surgeries we looked at were clean and well maintained. There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection.
We looked at two staff records. We saw both members of staff had an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in place. Where appropriate, the records contained proof of professional registration with the General Dental Council (GDC). The provider had a recruitment policy which stated: 'Written offers of employment/engagement will be made subject to two satisfactory clinical references for dentists, dental therapists and dental hygienists.' The provider may find it useful to note that both members of staff only had one reference on file.
The three people we spoke with were not aware that the provider had a complaints policy. However, they told us they would speak with a member of staff if they had a complaint.
