During a routine inspection
At Periosouth two periodontal specialists (periodontists) are supported by four dental hygienists to provide advice and treatment for people with periodontal disease. Periodontists are dentists who are recognised and registered by the General Dental Council (GDC) as specialists in periodontics.
We spoke with five patients who had received treatment on the day of our visit. These patients told us that the periodontist had explained their treatment needs in a way they could understand. One patient said: 'I had more than enough explanation'.
The periodontists had recorded their examination and assessment of each patient. Patient records contained copies of their detailed assessment. Each patient received a copy of their assessment and proposed treatment.
The provider explained the measures they took to assess and evaluate the treatment they provided. This included the collaboration with other specialists to ensure the treatment they provided reflected relevant research and current guidance.
