The MWH Practice has two sites; the main practice is in Southall in the London Borough of Ealing, and a branch surgery, The MWH Practice Hounslow, is in the London Borough of Hounslow. The practices provide care to around 8588 patients in total.
The practices are registered as a partnership with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to provide the regulated activities of: treatment of disease, disorder or injury; diagnostic and screening procedures; family planning services; surgical procedures and maternity and midwifery services at two locations. The practices have a General Medical Services (GMS) contract and provides a full range of essential, additional and enhanced services including maternity services, child and adult immunisations, family planning, sexual health services and surgical procedures.
The practice has two GP partners, one salaried GP and three long term locums GPs working a total for 23 sessions amongst them between the two sites. There is a good mix of female and male staff. The practice is in the process of appointing a practice manager. The practice has an assistant practice manager. To provide support to the assistant manager the practice had sought the help from the locality and were being provided with an experienced manager to offer support to the practice manager. The rest of the practice team consists of one prescribing pharmacist, one practice nurse, one health care assistant and seven administrative staff consisting of medical secretaries, reception staff, clerks and a typist.

The two practices operate on a rotational basis and staff work across both sites. The Southall practice is currently open five days a week from 08:00- 19:00hrs on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays. On Mondays the practice was open from 08:00 until 21:00hrs. Consultation times were 09:30 until 12:30hrs and 16:00 until 18:00hrs. The Hounslow practice is currently open 08:00-19:00hrs on Mondays, Tuesday, and Friday and on Thursday the practice opened until 20:00hrs. On Wednesday it opens till 14:00hrs. Consultation times are 09:30 until 12:30hrs and 16:00 until 18:00hrs. In addition to pre-bookable appointments that could be booked up to two weeks in advance, urgent appointments were also available for people that needed them.
When the practices are closed, the telephone answering service directs patients to contact the out of hours provider. There were no previous performance issues or concerns about this practice prior to our inspection.
The age profile of the practice population is broadly in line with the CCG averages. Information taken from Public Health England placed the area in which the practice is in the fourth less deprived decile (from a possible range of between 1 and 10). In general, people living in more deprived areas tend to have greater need for health services.
