Our view of the service

Date of assessment 26 Mar 2024 As part of a planned programme, we carried out an announced assessment of one quality statement, Equity of Access. We recognise the pressure that practices are currently working under and the efforts staff are making to maintain levels of access for their patients. At the same time, our strategy makes a commitment to deliver regulation driven by people’s needs and experiences of care. We had made changes to try to improve access to appointments and was about to receive a new telephone system. We heard how the practice provided opportunities and support for different groups of patients to overcome health inequalities, including adjustments to registration and to how patients could communicate with the practice. The majority (67%) of the patient feedback we received was positive. However, we also heard about difficulties with access to care. The practice carried out limited monitoring of access and had no effective method to seek feedback from patients about their experience. Patient satisfaction as measured by the National GP Patient Survey was falling and was generally below average, but not statistically significantly. For this assessment we assessed 1 quality statement from the responsive key question. The scores for this area has been combined with scores based on the key question ratings from the last inspection. Though this assessment indicated some areas of concern since the last inspection, the rating for this key question and our overall rating remains good.

People's experience of this service

In the 2023 National GP Patient Survey, the practice’s data for access was generally below average, but not statistically significantly. Based on the National GP Survey data, patient satisfaction in the practice has been declining since 2021. The practice had made changes to try to improve access since the last national survey. The majority (67%) of the patient feedback we received was positive and the practice told us that ad hoc feedback it received was usually positive, with no recent formal complaints about access. However, we also heard about difficulties with access to care. The practice had not carried out any recent survey/patient feedback exercise and had no patient participation group at the time of the assessment.
