Updated 16 January 2024

We carried out an announced assessment of Wood Lane Medical Centre on 14 and 27 of February 2024. We carried out this assessment as part of our programme of reviewing providers with aged ratings, which had been rated using our previous methodology. This assessment reviews the key questions of safe, effective, and well led. During the assessment we found that: Practice leaders had systems, practices, and processes to keep people safe. The practice had systems in place to manage risks to patient safety. Patients were regularly assessed, and care and treatment were delivered in line with current legislation and evidence-based guidelines. The practice had systems in place to ensure the appropriate and safe use of medicines, however these systems were not always adhered to. We conducted a number of clinical records searches (using a CQC GP clinical advisor) and found that processes in place to monitor patients with certain long-term conditions were not always monitored adequately. There were good governance processes in place at the practice, however some processes such as clinic audits did not always identify improvement to patient outcomes. The practice told us that they learned from significant events, but the assessment team did not see evidence of this. Finally staff and leaders were able to speak to us clearly and with confidence about their roles and how they supported each other to deliver quality care and treatments for their patient population.

People's experience of the service

Updated 16 January 2024

At the time of this assessment, the Commission used the most recently published national GP survey which had been undertaken between January and March 2023. The national GP patient survey for the practice received 120 responses. The survey found 81% of patients stated the healthcare professional was good at listening to them and 91% of patients stated they were involved as much as they wanted to be in decisions about their care and treatment. In addition, 95% of patients had confidence and trust in the health care professional they saw or spoke to.
