Caring

Outstanding

Updated 18 September 2024

We assessed a limited number of quality statements in the caring key question and found areas of good practice. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the rating from the last inspection, which was outstanding. Though the assessment of these areas indicated areas of good practice since the last inspection, our rating for the key question remains outstanding.

This service scored 90 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

We found the practice treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Information collected from staff interviews and questionnaires showed that the practice is caring for the patients.

Staff and leaders were confident that care and promoting dignity and respect for people who used the service was at the heart of the practice ethos.

All clinic rooms were equipped with lockable doors and curtains and it was common practice that doors were locked when carrying out procedures. Staff spoke to people who used the service with kindness and respect.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

Staff were positive about working at the practice. They were appreciative of the processes to support them at work. Staff met together each day for a coffee break for which the provider arranged for coffee and snacks to be prepared. Positive comments were made regarding this and the improved team relationships which had been built. Social events to promote team building and bonding had been implemented and staff said these had been positive experiences and were well attended. One person commented that staff teams across the two surgeries had got to know each other better despite not all non clinical staff working across both sites. The staff considered this would help more cohesive working across processes. Staff described the provider and management staff as being supportive both with work and personal issues.

The provider had a focused approach to staff wellbeing. They had recognised that between April 2023 and March 2024 there had been an increased turnover of staff. A staff wellbeing lead had been appointed with the aim to improve staff experiences of working at the practice. Since April 2024 only 1 member of staff had left. Several staff expressed they enjoyed working in the practice, felt supported and were part of a cohesive team.
