During a routine inspection
The managers told us 'the dentists always discussed people's examinations with them and sought their consent before carrying out any treatment'. Both of the people who we spoke with told us 'the dentist always provided a full explanation of their treatment'. This allowed them to make informed choices about their dental care and treatment. People's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in ways which ensured their safety and welfare. People's records were held electronically and included details of their medical histories.
All of the areas used for people's care and treatment were clean, uncluttered and well maintained. Hand washing facilities and antiseptic soaps were in use. The provider had sought people's views about the service, September 2012 to April 2013. People had rated the appearance and cleanliness of the practice positively and had reported positive satisfaction levels for obtaining appointments, dental treatments, helpful and friendly staff.
The internal environment of the practice was being modernised and refurbished at the time of our visit. The ground floor main reception and waiting area and second floor waiting area had been modernised to a high standard. Three dental surgeries situated on the first floor were modern and of a high standard. Disabled access and stair lift was available for people to access the first floor treatment areas. A fourth surgery situated on the ground floor was being equipped at the time of visit.
