Their comments included, ''They know me and all my care is done well, they are respectful and kind'', ''The care here is excellent and they come to work with smile on their faces'', ''I have a good relationship with [staff], they are honest and have empathy'' and ''The carers are wonderful, I will never forget them and what they have done for me.''

We saw staff treating people respectfully. They used their preferred names and pronouns. Staff were patient, thoughtful and responded well to different situations. When people were upset or distressed, they showed compassion and understanding.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

We did not look at Treating people as individuals during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

We saw staff offering people choices and respecting these. When people refused care or interventions, this was respected but the staff also went back to check the person and made sure their needs were met later. Staff regularly offered people a choice of drinks. People were able to make choices at mealtimes by choosing from the different options available. There were different organised activities on offer and people could join these if they wanted. Staff supported people to stay mobile by encouraging them to walk or move independently, while offering personalised support to keep them safe.

People were supported to make choices about their care. They were able to take part in a range of different organised activities. One person told us, ''There are a lot more things to do now than in the past.'' People told us they were able to chose what time they rose and went to bed. They also made choices about meals and the gender of care workers who supported them.

People's known choices and preferences were recorded in care plans. They were asked for their views and any changes they wanted to these plans. The provider employed a team of wellbeing coordinators who organised and facilitated a range of different social and leisure activities which people enjoyed.
