Updated 19 November 2024

The Maples Care Home is a care home providing residential, nursing and dementia care and support for up to 75 older people. Date of assessment: 30 July to 20 August 2024. At the time of our assessment there were 49 people using the service. At our last inspection of the service in July 2023, we found 7 breaches of regulation. The overall rating for the service was 'Inadequate' and the service was placed into 'special measures'. We carried out this assessment to check whether improvements had been made. The rating for the service has improved to requires improvement. This service has been in Special Measures since December 2023. The provider demonstrated improvements that have been made. The service is no longer rated as inadequate overall or in any of the key questions. Therefore, this service is no longer in Special Measures. However, although some improvements had been made, further improvements were still needed as we found continued breaches in relation to person centred care, dignity and respect, safe care and treatment, nutrition and hydration, good governance and staffing. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment. to: Therefore, this service is no longer in Special Measures. During the assessment we spoke with 4 people who used the service and 3 relatives. We received mixed feedback from people and relatives about the service. People were generally happy with the care provided. However, some people told us that at weekends there were less staff available and they had to look for a staff member if they needed support. We also received mixed feedback about the level of activities on offer, some people said that there were more activities on offer since the last inspection. Whereas others said there were not enough and they were left to sleep all day or had no meaningful conversations with staff. People had mixed views about communication within the service. Some people said that any concerns they had were resolved quickly and satisfactorily, whereas others felt improvements were still needed.
