Date of Assessment: 26 November to the 17 December 2024. The service is a Domiciliary Care Agency (DCA) registered to provide personal care. People were supported with their personal care needs to enable them to live in their own homes and promote their independence. At the time of the assessment the service supported 17 people with personal care. We found 2 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment and governance. Known risks to people had not been assessed to reduce the potential for avoidable harm. The provider did not complete effective quality checks to drive good care. People did not have assessments of need based on recognised best practice tools. People did not have assessments of care which comprehensively accounted for all their needs. The provider did not have effective systems to assess individuals’ capacity to make decisions. People receive their medication as prescribed. People were supported by staff who arrived when expected and stayed for the agreed amount of time. The provider followed safe recruitment practices. People’s risks of ill treatment and abuse were minimised as staff had received training on safeguarding and knew what to do if they suspected abuse. People were supported by staff who followed safe infection prevention and control practices. The provider had systems in place to investigate any incidents or accidents reported to them. People were supported to eat and drink enough to remain healthy. People were supported to remain independent in their own homes by a kind, friendly and compassionate staff team. People received information in a way which met their individual communication needs. Staff received training appropriate to their role. Staff were supported by a management team who they found to be approachable. People and staff were asked for feedback on the service. All felt their contributions were valued by the provider.

People's experience of the service

People were positive about the care and support they received. One relative told us their family member was, “Absolutely safe,” and the “carers were fantastic.” Another relative said, “Staff would always stay longer if it were needed and would bend over backwards to help in any way they can. They are very good carers.” People felt the staff who supported them engaged them well and listened to how they would like to be assisted. When people needed support with their medicines these were provided as prescribed by staff who had received training to safely do so. People, and relatives believed staff arrived when they had arranged and stayed for the right amount of time. Everyone felt the staff were friendly, engaging and supportive. People and those close to them believed they could raise any issues with the management team, and they would be listened to. People knew the complaints process and felt confident if they had to use it they would be responded to appropriately and their concerns taken seriously. People found the management team to be approachable and supportive. Everyone told us they felt staff were knowledgeable and trained to provide support. People felt safe from the risks of ill treatment and potential abuse.
