Governance, management and sustainability
The registered manager (RM) confirmed how they had improved their oversight of quality assurance audits. The RM said they ensured staff understood their roles and responsibilities through induction, training, coaching and mentoring. The RM said they also completed regular sample checks of records completed by staff and identified where staff required additional support to improve their practice in relation to record-keeping. Staff confirmed how their work was checked by managers. One staff member said, “The clinical lead, manager or other nurse, check I am doing the medication counts properly at least once a week.”
The service had made improvements to its processes and was no longer in breach of regulations. Risk assessments and care plans now included person-centred information and were checked monthly by staff. The provider had established new processes to provide better oversight of the home. Staff were aware of their responsibilities in relation to record-keeping. The service was now conducting multiple audits, including medication, fire safety and staffing. The audits included the creation of new actions where shortfalls were identified. For example, actions had been identified in the monthly medication audits to improve medication paperwork. The actions had also identified which staff were responsible to complete the action with a target date for completion.
