Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 14 March 2024

Date of assessment 18 March to 2 April 2024. First In Care Services is a homecare agency providing care to people with physical, health and dementia related support needs in their own homes and flats. This assessment looked at the improvements made in the service since the last inspection. The rating at our last inspection (published 24 January 2023) was requires improvement. At this assessment, the rating changed to good. We reviewed quality statements in Safe, Effective and Well-Led only. The registered manager employed since the last inspection now maintained a good oversight of the quality and safety of the care provided to people. There were now enough safely recruited staff in place to provide timely care to people and no visits were missed. People and relatives were now asked for feedback and there were quality assurances processes in place. Staff now completed initial needs assessments with people which addressed their needs, individual risks, preferences and wishes and informed their care plans.

People's experience of the service

Updated 14 March 2024

People told us their care addressed their needs and was well-organised as per individual circumstances. People said staff asked for their consent for care. They said they felt safe with staff and knew how to raise concerns if needed. People told us, “I feel completely safe with the staff, there has never been a time where I have felt unsafe.” People and their relatives felt staff knew people’s individual risks and supported them safely. A relative commented, “[Staff] know all of [person’s] risks and they always use the equipment that she has safely.” People told us staff overall came on time and completed visits as planned. If staff were running late, they would be informed. The registered manager acted if there were any issues with visit completion. People found staff to be competent for their roles. One person told us, “There seems to be (enough staff). I don’t think it has ever happened, but if they are late, it will be a few minutes.” People told us they received good support with their medicines which was on time and as prescribed. One person said, “There is never an issue with my medication. I always get it on time, and it is always checked to make sure it is the correct amount.” People said staff worked well as a team which enabled them to provide consistently good care and worked with other partners well when needed.
