During a routine inspection
All of the patients we spoke with were complimentary about the staff and the care they received. One patient said 'All the staff are excellent, very professional and efficient. It was a good service when we were at the hospital but the new unit has made it even better. I've found parking easier and the staff seem to have less distractions than in the hospital so the time I am here is quicker.'
Patients thought there were enough staff to meet their needs and thought that staff had the right skills. One patient said 'I feel they are knowledgeable and I feel safe in their hands.' Another patient said 'The staff know what they are talking about and know what they are doing. It makes you feel relaxed.'
We were told by patients that they were encouraged to give feedback about the service they received. One patient said 'We were involved from the beginning about the move to this new unit. They asked us about what we wanted and this has happened.' Another patient said 'We recently were asked to fill in a questionnaire about the new building. We told them we didn't want the art work on the window. Sure enough it's been removed.'
During our visit we saw there were checks and systems in place to monitor the standard of care at the unit. These checks included processes for looking at the care patients receive, infection control monitoring, equipment, staff training and medicines.
