Condition of this registration relating to carrying out this regulated activity
The Registered Person must train all care staff on the risks of Legionnaires disease at Beechdene Care Home. This training must include what symptoms service users may display as a result of Legionnaires disease and what action to take if symptoms develop. Documented evidence of which staff have been
trained and when, must be kept by the Registered Person. This training must be completed by 5pm on Monday 4 December 2023. If staff are on leave or not available to receive the training by this date, it must be completed before their next working shift.
The Registered Person must have a clear, documented action plan on how they will respond if Legionella bacteria is identified in the water system at Beechdene Care Home. This action plan must include how often water will be tested, how the result of water testing will be recorded, how service users, staff and external professionals will be informed of the finding, and what immediate action would then be taken if legionella bacteria is identified in the water. A copy of this action plan must be sent to the Care Quality Commission by 10am on Monday 4 December 2023.
The Registered Person must give all care staff (including agency staff) clear information on the risks of scalding at Beechdene Care Home. This information must be provided to all care staff before they start their next working shift. Documented evidence of what was communicated to staff, and which staff it was communicated to; must be kept by the Registered Person. Staff must be provided with clear details on how to test the temperature of water in Beechdene bathing facilities, how to set it to a suitable temperature and how to monitor this water temperature while a service user is bathing.
The provider must test and record the maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius for all bathing facilities in the property. This test must be completed by 10pm on Friday 1 December 2023. Following this test, the provider must identify which bathing facilities are at a safe maximum temperature for service user’s to bathe in. Where bathing facilities are not limited to a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius, the provider must complete an action plan for the refurbishment of these bathing
facilities. This action plan should include what action has been taken to prevent the risk of scalding in these facilities, what maintenance is planned, by whom and by what date. This action plan should be sent to the commission by 12pm on Monday 4 December 2023
