Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Staff told us their wellbeing had dramatically increased following a change in the leadership at the service. A staff member told us the happier atmosphere had had a positive impact on people who was also happier. Another staff member told us the nominated individual, registered manager and deputy manager were “Approachable, understanding and very supportive” which was “completely different” from the previous leadership team. The provider had taken action to make sure staff felt appreciated and rewarded. Staff had received vouchers at Christmas and had attended a party. A staff member told us, they were very pleased to be receiving a £500 bonus for introducing a new staff member. Plans were in place to continue to develop staff wellbeing and a team building day was being planned. Staff told us they felt valued and appreciated by the leadership team. Staff told us they felt supported by the registered manager. A staff member told us, “She is one of the nicest people I have met. She is very understanding”. Another staff member said, “They have believed in me and given me the opportunity to develop”. Other staff told us team work had improved with senior carers and the deputy manager stepping in to support care staff when needed. A staff member said, “They try to make staff’s job easier”. Staff told us their mental wellbeing had improved since the change of leadership at the service. They told us, “I used to be so anxious, but I don’t feel like that now”. Staff also told us they now looked forward to coming to work and felt valued. Their comments included, “I used to dread coming to work and was thinking of leaving. I enjoy coming to work now” and “I want to be here now, it’s enjoyable, before it was just to pay the rent”.

The provider had policies and procedures in place to support staff wellbeing including raising concerns and speaking up, grievance and sickness policies. Staff were supported with regular supervisions to discuss their practice and training needs. Regular staff meetings were held to gather feedback and suggestions from staff to support them in their roles.
