We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. At the time of the inspection, the location did not care or support for anyone with a learning disability or an autistic person. However, we assessed the care provision under Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture, as it is registered as a specialist service for this population group.
About the service
Genius Care Limited is a domiciliary care service providing the regulated activity of personal care for people living in their own homes. Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do we also consider any wider social care provided. At the time of the inspection four people were receiving a regulated activity.
People’s experience of using this service and what we found
Right Support: The model of care and setting that maximises people’s choice, control and independence.
People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. Systems were in place to support the safe administration of medicines. We have made a recommendation about the recording of some medicines.
Right Care: Care is person-centred and promotes people’s dignity, privacy and human rights
People received kind and compassionate care. Staff protected and respected people’s privacy and dignity. Staff understood how to protect people from abuse. There were enough trained staff to meet peoples needs and keep them safe. Care records promoted people’s dignity and independence. Some were more detailed than others. We have made a recommendation about support planning.
Right Culture: The ethos, values, attitudes and behaviours of leaders and care staff ensure people using services lead confident, inclusive and empowered lives.
People received good quality care from staff who values included person-centred care, openness and transparency. People, relatives and staff said they were well supported and would recommend Genius Care Limited. They said they had no concerns about the service.
