Caring
Staff did not always encourage independence and we observed some staff were task orientated in their approach and not person-centred. Some people were not always supported to make decisions and choices or encouraged to be as independent as possible. People had access to friends and family. Relatives told us they could visit when they wanted to. We received positive feedback from people about the new activities co-ordinator, but people did not have access to activities within the community. People had access to specialist and adaptive equipment.

Independence, choice and control
Our observations showed people were not always supported to make decisions and choices. People were not always encouraged to be as independent as possible. People had access to specialist and adaptive equipment. People had access to friends and family. Relatives spoken with told us they could visit when they wanted and were always made welcome.
Staff did not always encourage independence and we observed staff were task orientated in their approach and not person-centred. Particularly at mealtimes on the upstairs unit.
A new activities coordinator had been appointed and feedback from people was that they were very good and hoped they would continue. There was an activity ongoing during our visit which was being enjoyed by people. However, the provider had not promoted people's wellbeing by ensuring they had access to activities within the local community.
The systems and processes in place to ensure people were supported to have choice and control over their own care and to make decisions about their care, treatment and wellbeing required improvement.
