Our view of the service

Dates of assessment: 14 November and 15 November 2024. The Steppes Residential Care Home is a service providing accommodation and personal care to older people, some of whom are living with dementia. The service is registered for up to 29 people. At the time of this inspection there were 26 people living at The Steppes Residential Care Home. The last rating for this service was Good. The overall rating remains the same at this assessment. We assessed 10 quality statements across Safe, Caring and Responsive. The inspection team consisted of 2 inspectors, a medicines inspector and an Expert by Experience. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. We spoke with 9 staff members who worked at the service. This included the registered manager, care staff, activity coordinator, and housekeeping staff. We reviewed a range of records. This included 5 people’s care records, multiple medicine records and clinical records. We looked at records relating to the management of the service and people’s safety. We looked at audits and checks undertaken by the registered manager and senior staff about the quality of the care provided. People received care, which was good, however we identified 1 breach of the legal regulation in relation to some areas of medicine management and people not always having all risk assessments in place relating to their specific health needs and conditions. We were not assured measures to reduce risks to people’s safety and well being were always in place. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
