Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 5th to 21st November 2024. The service is a care at home service providing support to adults of all ages living with dementia, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, learning disabilities or autistic spectrum disorder. People were supported with their personal care needs to enable them to live in their own homes and promote their independence. At the time of the inspection the service supported 32 people with personal care. This included 3 people with a learning disability. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. At our last inspection the service was in breach of regulations regarding staff training and governance. The service had made improvements and is no longer in breach of regulations. Managers now made sure staff received the training they required to carry out their roles and the provider had effective quality monitoring systems in place to identify and drive improvements. The service had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks. Staff managed medicines well. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes. They monitored people’s health to support healthy living. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. Staff involved those important to people took decisions in people’s best interests where they did not have capacity. People were treated with kindness and compassion. People were involved in decisions about their care. Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally.
People's experience of this service
Most people were positive about the quality of their care they or their relative received. Comments included, “No concerns on the whole with my care”, “No concerns with my care, all very good, I am very pleased with the service I receive” and “No complaints about anything they do, not one, I can’t fault any of the staff, they all deserve a medal.” Some concerns were raised regarding carers staying the correct time, consistency of carers, and communication difficulties due to English not being staffs first language. These concerns were fedback to the manager who was aware of some of the issues and provided assurances regarding the actions being taken to rectify them. People felt safe and were involved in planning their care. Comments included, “I do feel safe, I can discuss any issues, and they listen, language barrier can be a problem, never any abuse” and “I feel very safe as I see the same carer every day, [staff member] is brilliant, has been with me for 2 years, my angel” and “I feel very safe with them, lots of different faces, sometimes I get a run of regular carers.” People said they received high quality care from staff who treated them as individuals. Several people described how staff treated them kindly and made sure any personal care was done sensitively, preserving their privacy and dignity. Comments included, “She is very much kind and caring, definitely respectful towards us both, respects her elders, a positive outcome is that I couldn’t cope without her”, “All got to know me, [staff member] is like family now, always respectful” and “Kind and caring, oh yes I can’t fault any of them 200%.” People told us the service was flexible in meeting their needs. Comments included, “I am happy with what they give me, will be flexible with timing if necessary” and “Nothing is too much trouble for them, flexible times can be accommodated.” People felt able to complain and were confident action would be taken and improvements would be made.
