Updated 15 June 2024

Date of Assessment: 28 January to 29 January 2025. Dundoran Nursing and Residential Home provides support to a maximum of 39 older people living with dementia and nursing needs. At the time of our assessment 28 people were living at the home. We received information which indicated people were living in a poorly maintained environment and were not receiving safe care. The home was clean; however, some areas of the home did need refurbishment. New flooring was being fitted, and redecoration was underway during our assessment. People were receiving safe care. Care plans had been rewritten since our last inspection, improved systems were in place to monitor the care people received daily. Changes were made as people’s needs changed. The provider had systems in place to monitor the quality of this. Staff received the training they needed to support people and people’s immediate needs were responded to. People received their medicines as prescribed and were supported to access healthcare and other specialist services. Staff worked with other professionals and organisations to ensure positive outcomes were achieved for people. Healthcare professionals told us staff were responsive and knowledgeable about people. Staff felt supported and told us the manager listened to them and was approachable. The manager was newly appointed and was open, transparent and receptive to any feedback and demonstrated a commitment for ensuring people received high quality care.

People described an open-door culture where the manager, and the wider management team, were available at any time. Family members told us any concerns they experienced had been addressed in recent weeks. One person told us about some ongoing concerns which, when raised, the manager assured us would be addressed straightaway. People told us the home was kept clean; the food was of a good quality, and they could access a range of social activities. We observed caring interactions between staff and people. Visitors were made to feel welcome and confirmed they could visit at any time. People had the equipment they needed to promote their independence and improve their quality of life.
