Our view of the service
Grafton Manor is a care home. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. We carried out our site assessment on 12 February 2024 and finished on 5 March 2024. We looked at 6 quality statements: Safe environment, Safe and effective staffing, Medicines optimisation, Delivering evidence-based care and treatment, Person-centred care and Governance, management and sustainability. During the on-site assessment there were 9 people living at the home. People did not receive person centred care that promoted their quality of life, interests and aspirations. We requested an action plan from the provider. People did not always receive their medicines as prescribed. The manager assured us action had been taken to prevent further recurrence and the monitoring was increased. People’s specific health care needs were met. There was ongoing refurbishment of the service. Regular checks were carried out on the premises and equipment and any action identified was monitored. Some areas were not kept secure and the manager took immediate action to rectify this. There was appropriate equipment available to meet people’s assessed needs. People felt safe at the service and with the staff. There were enough staff trained and competent to meet people’s care needs. The service did not have a registered manager. A peripatetic manager was in post whilst the provider recruited a manager. The provider had improved the oversight systems to monitor all aspects of quality and safety in the service were in place but some required further time to fully embed. At our last inspection the service was rated requires improvement. At this assessment the rating remains the same. The provider had made some improvements to meet the regulations but further action was needed to sustain the improvements made.
People's experience of this service
People’s relatives told us they were involved in the care planning process. Relatives told us their family member’s health care needs were met by staff and they were informed of any changes in health or circumstances. People told us there were enough skilled staff to meet their physical care needs. Feedback from people’s relatives about opportunities for people to pursue their hobbies, interests and aspirations was mixed. People lived in an adapted home and were able to access their rooms and communal areas safely.
