Independence, choice and control
Care plans were reflective of people's needs and preferences and written in a person-centred way. This included information about people's communication needs and the use of visual aids to promote accessible information. Staff had relayed care plans to people in a way they could understand, and they had signed to confirm their agreement. There were systems in place to regularly review people's care files. Daily records evidenced that people's independence was promoted, their consent was sought, and their wishes were respected.
Our conversations with people indicated their independence was promoted by staff. For example, A person was proud of independently keeping their flat clean and tidy and doing their own laundry. People told us they were able to do activities they enjoyed. For example, one person told us they enjoyed going to the wool shop and then used the wool to make crafts.
Staff could tell us in detail how they promoted people's independence. For example, a staff member described to us that a person was able to do most things related to meal preparation, but they would need to provide support to set the microwave and cooker.
