Our view of the service
This assessment took place between 15 October 2024 and 29 October 2024. We carried out this assessment to review progress made since our last assessment when we identified breaches of regulations. Carrick is a care home for people with a learning disability and autistic people. At the time of the assessment 4 people were living at Carrick. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. We found improvements had been made. However, improvements to supporting people to identify and meet their goals were needed. Improvements had been made to the environment. However, there remained areas where further work was needed. Processes to assess people’s compatibility before someone moved into Carrick were not robust and did not minimise the risks associated with people’s needs negatively impacting on each other. There were no formal systems for gathering and recording people’s views. Following our visit the registered manager provided further information about how improvements would be made in these areas.
People's experience of this service
People were more settled and relaxed than at our previous assessment. They were treated fairly and staff valued them and communicated with them according to their preferences. There were no undue restrictions on people’s liberty. Activities were varied and reflected people’s interests. However, due to some conflicting needs there had been incidents when people’s emotional well-being had been at risk.
