Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 11 February 2025 to 20 February 2025. Lowgate Care Home is a residential care home providing nursing and personal care for up to 42 people who have physical and mental health conditions. At the time of the inspection 39 people used the service.
We found 2 breaches of regulations in relation to medicines and quality assurance systems.
The service had recently gone through several management changes, including the appointment of a new manager. The management team had already identified some poor practices and concerns. Although work had started to improve some of the issues we found, all issues needed to be addressed, and all improvements made needed to be fully embedded and monitored over time.
There was enough staff to meet people’s needs. Staff were kind and compassionate. Some of the staff team told us they had been distressed by the departure of key members of staff last year due to financial irregularities. There was no current registered manager at the service but arrangements to address this were taking place.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives were very positive about the quality of care and support they received. People felt safe and were positive about the staff team who supported them.
People and their relatives told us staff were very thoughtful and kind and went out of their way to help. One person said, “The staff are very good. I believe they couldn’t be any better. Even when they’re busy, they smile and make time for me.” There were many visitors to the service on a daily basis and they were treated with the same care and respect as people, this included the ability to have lunch with their loved ones and join in with activities if they so wished.
