Governance, management and sustainability
At the assessment on 6 December 2024 we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulation: Systems and processes were more established with staff. We saw that quality and assurance and monitoring and mitigating risk was conducted. The information and evidence presented during the assessment was clear and well documented. Records were available to demonstrate the servicing and maintenance of X-ray equipment and the required radiation protection information was in place. Emergency equipment and medicines were available and checked in accordance with national guidance. Fridge temperatures where medicines were stored were checked and logged. We noted items in treatment room drawers were in blister packs and covered. A fire risk assessment had been undertaken by an external provider on 13 August 2024. The provider had put some systems in place to ensure fire safety processes were effective and in line with fire safety legislation. We saw satisfactory records of servicing of equipment in line with manufacturer’s instructions. We noted one member of staff had undertaken a fire safety warden training course and fire safety evacuation drills were completed. However, there was scope to ensure all staff undertook fire safety training and higher risk actions identified in the fire risk assessment, including the addition of a second smoke alarm and positioning of the distribution box and cabling from under the stairs, be reviewed as a matter of priority. Risk assessments were in place for lone working staff and for staff who did not have confirmation of hepatitis B immunity. NHS prescription pads were stored securely and logs were in place to track and monitor their use. The practice had systems and processes for learning, quality assurance and continuous improvement. This included undertaking audits according to recognised guidance. There was scope to improve the systems for receiving and acting on safety alerts within the practice.
