During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 4 July 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. The practice had systems to manage risks. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. Infection control procedures followed published guidance. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance. Patients were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Bupa Dental Care Beeston is part of Bupa, a dental group provider. The practice is in Beeston, Leeds and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 4 dentists, 5 dental nurses including 1 trainee, 1 dental hygienist, 1 dental therapists, 1 practice manager and 4 receptionists. The practice had 3 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 2 dental nurses, the dental therapist, 1 receptionist and the practice manager.

During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

Since our last inspection the provider had carried out further infection control training, in which they reiterated the importance of minimising instances of cross contamination.

There had been a further infection control audit which was a more appropriate reflection of the conditions we noted during our last inspection.

During a routine inspection

We obtained the views of four people who were using the service at the time of our inspection. All four said they were very happy with the service they received and would recommend the practice. They said fees were always fully explained and treatment choices, explanations and after-care advice were always clear.

One person said, "I am very happy with the surgery. The reception staff are very helpful and the dentists provide clear explanations about treatment and care." Another person said 'I have been coming here for years, we have moved to the other side of Leeds and we still come here." Someone else said "I have never had a problem getting an appointment and they nearly always keep to time."

We also looked at patient satisfaction survey results for the practice, which revealed a high rate of satisfaction with the care people received.

We have raised concerns with regard to areas of infection control. The practice has an infection control policy in place which is not always adhered to.
