Effective
People were supported by staff who knew their individual needs well. Staff spoke positively about working at the service. They said they were well supported by their colleagues and management and worked collaboratively to ensure they met people’s needs. People and family members had confidence in the knowledge and skills of care staff.

How staff, teams and services work together
People and family members spoke positively about the knowledge and competence of staff. They told us they had confidence that staff knew people’s needs well and how to support them appropriately. A family member told us, “I feel that [person] is safe with the carer because they are very experienced and trustworthy. They have been working with APDA for the last ten years.”
Staff were positive about working for the service and how they were supported in their work. Staff felt valued and respected by the manager. A care staff told us, “I am well supported by the manager. [They] are friendly and supportive. I can them to them openly.” Another care staff said, “The manager is very, very good. The support has been good.” Staff told us there was good communication within the service and that morale was positive. They said they felt comfortable reaching out to their colleagues and management for support.
Systems in place ensured that staff were kept informed of changes within the service and with people’s needs through regular communication which included handovers, meetings and daily logs. Staff worked well as a team, sharing information with one another as necessary to ensure effective care was consistently provided. Staff received support through an induction and training. There were arrangements for supervision and on-site spot checks. This enabled staff to discuss their development and management to monitor staff performance to ensure they were providing effective care and support.
