We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Kingsway Surgery on 29th November 2018 as part of our inspection programme. Overall this practice is rated as good.
At this inspection we found:
- The practice had clear systems to manage risk so that safety incidents were less likely to happen. When incidents did happen, the practice learned from them and improved their processes.
- The practice routinely reviewed the effectiveness and appropriateness of the care it provided. It ensured that care and treatment was delivered according to evidence- based guidelines.
- Staff involved and treated patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
- The practice had identified a low number of patients who were carers
- Patients found the appointment system easy to use and reported that they were able to access care when they needed it.
- There was a strong focus on continuous learning and improvement at all levels of the organisation.
- The practice had carried out several clinical and non-clinical audits.
- The practice involved patients in regular reviews of their medicines.
- The practice was clean and tidy, and staff had reviewed infection prevention control and policies.
- Processes for identifying when staff training updates were due needed strengthening.
- Locum recruitment checks needed to be carried out more effectively.
- The leadership and governance at the practice were effective.
The areas where the provider should make improvements are:
- Strengthen the process to identify when current training expires to ensure all staff are up to date at all times.
- Continue to review methods to identify more patients that are also carers.
- Ensure that in the event of any locums that are used full recruitment checks, Including safeguarding are carried out.
