Our view of the service
Oak House is a residential care home providing personal care for up to 6 people who may have a learning disability and/or people with autism. At the time of our assessment 6 people were living at the service. Our on-site assessments were unannounced on 30 July and 1 August 2024. We assessed quality statements in Safe, Responsive and Well-Led. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. At the last inspection the service was rated as requires improvement in well-led. At this inspection the rating has improved to good, the service had an established registered manager who was proactive in delivering high quality and person-centred care. People and staff felt they were able to raise concerns as the registered manager had an open and transparent learning culture. Staff were knowledgeable of people’s needs and able to communicate information well with healthcare professionals. Staff received safeguarding training and knew the processes to follow if they had concerns therefore, people were protected from harm and abuse. People were encouraged to take positive risks in their day to day lives, staff assessed these risks appropriately. The home was clean and tidy, and equipment was maintained well. Peoples’ medication was managed safely. People were treated kind and supported individually to meet their needs. People and relatives knew how to give feedback and were assured by the providers responses. Staff felt they were able to give feedback as the registered manager was approachable and listened to the staff.
People's experience of this service
We received positive feedback from the people and relatives we spoke to. People told us they felt safe. One person said, “I like the staff, they are kind to me.” One relative said, “Staff explain changes clearly and listen to (Name), (Name) now has the confidence to speak up.” Another relative said “The registered manager is astounding, I have so much praise for them.” People knew the staff and management team well. People and relatives were regularly asked for feedback on their care and experience. The management team communicated the outcomes and actions to people, staff and relatives.
