Safe
We looked at one quality statement under the key question safe; safe and effective staffing. Staff were safely recruited with all pre-employment checks completed before starting work. For overseas recruits, checks of visa status were in place. Staff received the correct training and support for their roles. All new members of staff completed induction training, shadowed an existing member of staff and received competency assessments prior to working on their own.

Safe and effective staffing
People told us they felt the service was safe. All the people we spoke with were positive about staff working at the service. We were told staff arrived on time, stayed the full length of the call, and completed all agreed tasks. People said, “The guys they send me are very good & I get on with them well. They speak good English, are very punctual and stay the full 30 minutes.” “Very punctual, all well trained, very helpful and nice.” “I’ve found the staff to be responsive, caring, considerate people.”
Staff told us they felt supported by the management team and received appropriate training for their role. One new member of staff told us “I’ve worked for them for 2 weeks and have completed the induction and in house training. All last week I was shadowing carers and this week I’m on my own.” A longer term member of staff told us they were able to raise any issues they had in staff meetings “Staff meetings are once a month; staff can contribute to these.”
Staff were recruited safely into the service. Appropriate checks were carried out to ensure staff were suitable and able to work with people using the service. Checks included references, disclosure and barring service records checks (DBS), right to work and previous employment history. Staff received appropriate training and supervision for their roles, from members of the office management team.
