Caring
People were not always supported to have maximum choice and control over their lives. Where people lacked mental capacity to make decisions, the provider failed to record the decision-making process. People were encouraged to maintain social contact with friends and family and were supported to access the community.

Independence, choice and control
Relatives told us their loved ones were treated kindly by staff and with dignity and respect. Staff listen to people and respect their choices. People were given a choice on male or female carers. One relative told us, "Staff will offer [name of person] choices, for example, choosing their own clothes."
Records did not demonstrate people had been involved in their care planning.
Staff described encouraging people to participate in discussions about their care needs. Active listening, respecting preferences. Empowering people to make informed choices and promoting person centred care. People were asked what their preferences are by using both verbal and nonverbal communication. Whilst staff told us this, knowledge and understanding of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) was limited and we found no evidence of MCA assessments being completed. This meant decisions were made on behalf of people which may not be in their best interests.
