During an assessment under our new approach

We had previously undertaken an on-site assessment of Centre Point Dental Practice on 21 May 2024 under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. We found the registered provider was not providing safe or well-led care and was in breach of regulations 12 and 17 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. We undertook a follow up focused assessment on 29 November 2024. This assessment was carried out to review the actions taken by the registered provider to improve the quality of care and to confirm that the practice was now meeting legal requirements. We found the practice had met regulations. The practice had systems to manage risks and infection control procedures followed published guidance. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Centre Point Dental Practice is in the London Borough of Camden and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with the principal dentist, a qualified dental nurse, the receptionist, who was also a practice manager and another practice manager.

During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 21 May 2024. We found the practice had not met all regulations. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and patients were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and infection control procedures broadly followed published guidance. The practice however, did not have effective systems to manage risks, including risks related to the premises, availability of equipment and medicines to manage medical emergencies and prescriptions. The practice is in the London borough of Camden and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included the principal dentist, 3 associate dentists, 1 qualified dental nurse, 1 trainee dental nurse, 3 dental hygienists, 2 practice managers and 1 receptionist. The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with the principal dentist, and an associate dentist, 1 qualified dental nurse and the trainee dental nurse, 1 dental hygienist, the practice manager who was also the receptionist and the other practice manager. The provider was not complying with 2 regulations. Full details of the regulations the provider was not meeting are within the quality statement section of the report. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

During a routine inspection

Centre Point Dental Practice ensured that patients of the practice were fully informed and involved in the treatment they received. The staff were courteous, respectful and willing to give patients advice. This was confirmed by a patient we spoke to who advised us that he was very happy with the service and would definitely recommend the practice to friends and family.

The practice ensured that the safety of patients was always paramount by abiding with current legislation, guidelines and recommendations.
