Delivering evidence-based care and treatment

Score: 2

People and their relatives told us they were not always involved in making decisions about how their care needs were met. Some relatives told us that they felt their family member's health and wellbeing was of high importance to the staff and they had been offered the chance to contribute to any decisions being made. However, other relatives reported not being offered the opportunity to be involved in any care planning, decision making or reviews for their loved one. We observed people were being appropriately supported by staff where needed. Staff did not rush people. For example, people were able to eat and drink at their own pace.

Staff told us they had received additional training to help ensure the way they supported people followed current evidence-based good practice and standards. We found the provider had followed up on medical appointments for people where these had been missed. For example, 1 person required a blood test which the nursing staff were not able to complete so the nursing staff requested support from the community nursing team.

The provider had improved their assurance processes to ensure people received care and treatment that was appropriate and up to date.
