People had choice and control over their day to day lives. People and relatives told us staff actively supported them to maintain as much independence as possible. Staff were observed supporting people with kindness and patience.

Independence, choice and control

People told us they were able to make day to day choices. When equipment was required to support people’s mobility staff ensured it was available. A relative told us how their family member had been involved in the redecoration of their bedroom. A residents questionnaire showed people were generally positive about the activities although two people had indicated they would like to go out more often. There was no evidence any action had been taken in response to this.

The registered manager told us there were very few restrictions in place and people were able to make choices about where they spent their time.

We saw people making choices, for example about when and where they ate. Staff regularly checked with people to ensure they were comfortable and did not need any support.

Activities were arranged and people were encouraged to take part in them. The registered manager told us there were no restrictions on visitors. Families confirmed they were always made to feel welcome.
