Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 25 to 29 November 2024. This service is a care at home service providing support to older people. CQC only inspects where people are receiving the regulated activity of personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we consider any wider social care provided. At the time of this assessment, 5 people were receiving personal care support. People and those important to them felt able to raise concerns. Staff understood and managed risks; however, information about risks to people’s safety was not always accurate. There were enough staff with the right skills and experience. However, recruitment processes were not always robust. Staff knew how to support people to manage their medicines safely; however medicines records were not always sufficiently detailed. The service had governance processes in place, but these were not being used effectively to identify or address areas of concern. The registered manager was prompt to respond to our feedback and take action, demonstrating a commitment to making the necessary improvements. People were involved in assessments of their needs. Staff worked with other agencies involved in people’s care and monitored people’s health to support healthier living. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. They treated them as individuals and supported their preferences. The service supported staff wellbeing. People received fair and equal care and treatment. People were involved in decisions about their care. People, relatives and staff knew how to give feedback and the registered manager was approachable and supportive. There was a clear vision for the service based on listening to people, building trust and continuously learning.

People's experience of this service

People and those important to them were positive about the quality of the care provided. They told us staff were kind and they had no concerns about safety. People felt in control of their care. They told us staff knew them well and were knowledgeable about their specific needs and preferences. Comments included, “They are punctual, stay as long as needed and are happy to change the times they come to suit what [person] wants. They are very good” and “I’ve no concerns. [Person] gets calls at the times they want and, as it’s a small company, we don’t get lots of different carers coming. It makes it easier as there’s only 1 or 2. [Person] has bonded with the carers and is very happy.” People and those important to them knew the registered manager well and told us they were responsive and easy to contact at any time. They felt confident any issues would be addressed promptly. Comments included, “[Registered manager] goes above and beyond, they’re so supportive and helpful” and “It’s easy to get hold of [registered manager]. I feel very involved and can always call any time.”
