Person-centred Care
Overall, relatives spoke positively over engagement and activities their loved ones were involved with. Comments included, “All the [people], yeah, very independent. They all have their own cars and I think that speaks volumes. [Person] gets taken out for meals, walks and shopping. They do things. They [staff] manage it well. [Person] goes out in the community” and “[Person] is always busy and goes out.” Another person told us, “[Person] could be more stimulated maybe, but can't really complain too much, I mean some of the staff are wonderful and get [person] out.”
Staff demonstrated they understood the importance of delivering support which was person centred. Staff spoke confidently of people’s needs and specific preferences in care and knew people very well. Some people had practices which could be described as restrictive. Staff were able to describe the reason for this and when these were used.
We observed staff responding quickly to people’s immediate needs and people were treated with kindness. Staff knew people well and how they preferred to be supported. We saw people utilising personal spaces within the home, which were personalised to reflect their interests and personal taste. Routines which were important to people were known and respected.
